I’m celebrating Independence Day (Week) in true fashion…working on my house in Homer (deck railing creation and install, fireplace stone install) while cooking a brisket! A 6am-10pm shift yesterday.
I have 2 deck contractors working with me. Dan and Dan. One is a hippy from upstate NY, the other a Homer-grown conservative. Same age(ish). While prepping wood deck posts, we got to talking about the cost of water and sewer options in town. Homer Dan and I were on the “it cost a lot but we like local utilities convenience”…Hippy Dan was “I like having to haul my own water and fuel and outhouse” part of the conversation. What I proclaimed after a few minutes during the feisty debate is that in Homer and surrounding areas, we have the FREEDOM to choose for the most part your method of water and waste handling. We agreed…then we argued about the length of the exposed post for best look.
I’m thankful I can find good contractors in town to do most of the technical work! I’m thankful that property ownership and caretaking is a choice (whether easy or difficult based on personal circumstances).
Own or don’t own land…just be thankful we have the freedom to decide what works best for US!
